SOS Save Our Super

Who We Are

SOS Save Our Super was created by victims, for victims.

What began as one investor searching for answers has grown into one of Australia’s largest volunteer-led advocacy groups for people affected by failed financial advice, collapsed investment schemes and failures across the financial services system.

We are not lawyers.

We are not politicians.

We are not funded by government or industry.

We are ordinary Australians who lost our retirement savings and refused to accept that thousands of families should simply be left behind.

Every phone call, every meeting, every submission, every media interview and every late night spent researching has been undertaken voluntarily by people who have lived this experience themselves.

Our mission is simple:

To give every victim a voice, to fight for accountability, and to ensure every available pathway to compensation is pursued.

How It Started

SOS Save Our Super was founded by Melinda Kee, following the loss of her own retirement savings in the collapse of First Guardian Master Fund.

Like thousands of others, Melinda discovered that navigating Australia’s financial regulatory system was overwhelming. Victims were dealing with multiple regulators, trustees, liquidators, financial advisers, licensees, court proceedings and complaint schemes, often without understanding where to begin.

What started as a small Facebook group quickly became a national community.

Investors began sharing information, helping one another understand complex legal and regulatory processes, and supporting people through one of the most difficult periods of their lives.

As more victims came forward, it became clear that the problem extended far beyond one failed investment. The group evolved into an advocacy movement focused on exposing systemic failures and improving outcomes for investors across Australia.

Who We Are Today

SOS Save Our Super remains entirely volunteer driven.

Our core team consists of victims who donate hundreds of hours of their own time each month to support thousands of Australians.

Melinda Kee – Founder

Melinda has become one of the leading advocates for victims of First Guardian, Shield Master Fund and other failed investment schemes.

She has represented investors in meetings with ASIC, AFCA, Treasury, the Compensation Scheme of Last Resort, Members of Parliament, Senators and consumer organisations.

Her work has focused on creating practical pathways to compensation, improving investor protections and ensuring victims have a seat at the table when reforms are discussed.

Danielle Adams

Danielle has been instrumental in supporting investors through the AFCA complaints process.

Having experienced the system herself, she has helped countless victims understand their rights, navigate complaint procedures and remain engaged throughout lengthy regulatory and legal processes.

Peter Spencer-Franks

Peter has provided ongoing support to investors, helping coordinate community engagement, assist victims seeking information and strengthen the support network that has become central to SOS Save Our Super.

His commitment has helped ensure no investor feels they are facing this journey alone.

Natalia Smith – Research

Natalia has dedicated countless hours researching regulatory documents, court proceedings, corporate records and public information.

Her work has helped identify critical evidence, build timelines and ensure the information shared with investors is as accurate and well-researched as possible.

Together, this volunteer team continues to donate their time because they believe no victim should have to fight alone.

What We Have Accomplished

Since its creation, SOS Save Our Super has become one of Australia’s most recognised investor advocacy groups.

Working alongside thousands of investors, we have helped achieve significant outcomes, including:

  • Bringing national attention to the First Guardian, Shield and Australian Fiduciaries collapses.

  • Meeting directly with ASIC, AFCA, Treasury and the Compensation Scheme of Last Resort to advocate for investors.

  • Helping restore the AFCA pathway for many APT Strategies investors after deregistration had prevented complaints from being lodged.

  • Supporting thousands of investors to understand their legal rights and available compensation pathways.

  • Assisting hundreds of investors to prepare and lodge AFCA complaints.

  • Providing practical guidance through liquidation processes, ASIC investigations and Federal Court proceedings.

  • Contributing to policy discussions regarding trustee accountability, lead generation, financial advice reform and compensation for victims.

  • Working with journalists across Australia to ensure investor stories continue to be heard.

  • Creating one of the largest independent knowledge bases explaining the complex events surrounding First Guardian, Shield and related investment failures.

  • Building a community where victims support one another with knowledge, compassion and hope.

Our Principles

Everything we do is guided by a simple belief:

People who save for retirement should be protected.

When that protection fails, victims deserve answers.

When misconduct occurs, there must be accountability.

When people suffer financial loss through failures within the financial services system, every reasonable avenue for compensation should be pursued.

Above all, we believe that no Australian should have to fight alone after losing the savings they spent a lifetime building.

Looking Forward

Our work is far from over.

Regulatory investigations continue.

Court proceedings continue.

Liquidations continue.

Thousands of Australians are still waiting for answers.

SOS Save Our Super will continue to advocate for stronger consumer protections, improved accountability throughout the financial services industry and fair compensation for those who have suffered life-changing financial loss.

Because behind every dollar lost is a person, a family, a retirement and a future.

And every one of those people deserves to be heard.
